My DIY Projects

The north wind blows wreaths off the front of my house so I came up with this idea.

First I ordered a 14″ x 14 inch wooden frame with plexiglass in it that measured 12″ x 12″ (the frame is 2″ wide all the way around). I got the frame from Amazon.

I used clear silicone to adhere the glass to the frame all the way around it. Be sure to wipe off any extra or smeared silicone right away.

I used a 3′ long piece of 1″ x 2″  wood and cut it into three equal pieces. I placed them on the back of the frame, lining them up along the edge of the glass and drilled holes through the 1″ x 2″ wood. Then I attached the one foot pieces to the back of the frame with screws. One on each side and one on the bottom. NOTE: Be sure to leave space between the sides and the ends of the bottom piece for rain and melting snow to drain.

Then, I drilled  three holes through the frame and the 1″ x 2″ pieces of wood – one on each side (in the middle – around the 7″ mark)  and one on the bottom in the middle. I took the frame outside and held it up where I wanted it and marked where each of the three holes were located on my brick.

Then, using a mortar bit I drilled the three holes, placed a plastic expander in each hole and attached the frame to my house.

I’d caught a great sale at Zulily where I’d purchased a lot of 12″ x 12″ wooden “posters.”

I slid one between the frame and my house and now I can change them along with the season or holiday or even just my mood. (NOTE: be sure to put two small eye hooks on the top edge of the wooden images (about an inch from each side). Then, using an old wire clothes hanger make two wire hooks about six to eight inches long – use the hooks to remove the images form the frame.

I hope you enjoy this project. I’m always coming up with new ones and as a matter of fact I just learned how to put a picture on wood. I’ll share that one with you next time.
